Try a jump while attempting to start it. Next easy step is to try another key. The CAS system sometimes will not sync with the key and allow the security system to allow a start. If that doesn't work then it the trouble shooting gets tougher. Try the first two and report back.
Using a voltmeter, test for 12-volts between the positive and negative wires for the fuel pump (on most external pumps this can be done with the wire terminals still connected to the pump, on applications that use a harness plug, remove the plug and test the wires in the plug terminals).

A failing Final Stage Unit or (FSU) seems to be the cause of most battery drain situations in E39, E46 and so on equipped BMW vehicles from what I have read.
